You must be enrolled in the CDCP program AND have received your benefits card to be eligible to use the benefit plan towards dental services at our clinic.

You must re-apply every year to ensure eligibility. If you apply once, it does not automatically continue year after year.

The Canada Dental Care Plan coverage runs July 1 to June 30 (12 months).

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Caradoc Dentistry: How it Works

Patients who have received their CDCP benefits card from Sunlife can call Caradoc Dentistry to book an appointment or update their existing records.

The benefit card information must be presented to one of the dental administrators before you arrive for your appointment, or ideally, in advance of booking your appointment.

The CDCP program requires our team to provide you with an estimate for services that will be provided during your appointment. Once you have approved the estimate (verbally, by email or in person), then dental services will be booked/provided.

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Caradoc Dentistry: Cost

It is important to note that the CDCP program is a benefit towards dental services, but it does not always cover 100% of the cost. Most often there is an additional amount that the patient is responsible for paying at their appointment. These reasons being,

  1. The CDCP benefit plan does not match the Ontario Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide for Practitioners. This is not uncommon even among private insurance companies. Many private insurance companies do not match the Ontario Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide either or only match a portion of it. Benefit plans are a benefit toward dental services, not always 100% coverage for the services.
  2. There are three tiers of the CDCP plan. Two of the tiers are required to pay a co-pay of either 40% or 60% of the fee.

The good news is that our dental admin team can tell you ahead of time whether there is an amount that you will be responsible for and what that amount will be.

Amounts owed by the patient are collected at the time of treatment.

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Caradoc Dentistry: Coverage

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) does not cover all procedures and may not meet the frequency that your dental hygienist and dentist have recommended for your mouth.

For example, the recommended frequency for dental cleanings (scaling) for most adults is higher than what is covered under the CDCP.

We can assist you in determining what dental cleaning (scaling), and/or dental treatment coverage you have, in accordance with our dental professionals recommendation(s).

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) at Caradoc Dentistry: Attention Patients with Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO), or Ontario Works (OW) Benefits

If you have dental benefits through the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO), or Ontario Works (OW) you may also be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). When you have two dental benefit plans this is referred to as dual insurance. Dual insurance may increase the dental treatment options that you would be covered for.

We encourage you to speak with your case worker to determine if you are also eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Your case worker may also be able to assist you in the application process for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

If you have any questions, our dental administrators are happy to help you better understand this new process. You can call the office at (519) 245-0751.
