Space Maintainers

If your child requires that a baby tooth be extracted prematurely, or one has been forced out due to an injury or an accident, a space maintainer may be recommended to hold the space for the adult tooth. If you don’t keep the space held for the adult tooth, your child’s teeth may drift in to the open space leaving little space for the adult tooth. This can result in poor alignment of teeth which beyond aesthetics can cause long term jaw pain and problems.

Space maintainers are removable and can be taken in and out for meals and snacks. However, it is important that the child wear the space maintainer most of the time for best results.
